In a surprising crossover event that challenges conventional expectations, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including no-cost extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Revealed

According to the authorized release, "An unusual meeting draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original mission, where whispers of prohibited rituals and monstrous metamorphoses echo through the obscurity." The plot introduces a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who charges the characters with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her friend from a clandestine cult.

The mission centers on "peculiar tests and a terrifying enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Changes

The trailer features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, probably the hostage, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Additional Material

Players who finish the mission will receive an exclusive katana in addition to several objects concealed throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Exclusive implements
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Addition

This release also introduces the game's newest free story episode, titled "The Enigma." This humorous quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive techniques: Naoe reveals a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Partnerships

This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime properties. The series previously featured a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
